I just watched this episode today and I have somewhat of a background in screen writing, so from what I understand, this show like most, already has the basic character story arcs in place for the entire series and how everything is supposed to play out from day one.

They are officially back together by the end of , "Nip and Suck It", where Shawn informs Gus that they are back together shortly before we find out that Rachel broke up with Gus. Shawn normally isn't an especially "sincere" guy, but somehow that scene managed to be so expressive without breaking away from the silliness of his usual character. But to me, nothing can compare to the chills I got during the lie detector scene.

Everything about that just felt amazing. There was never an official getting back together. Their breakup was handled more like a temporary separation that Shawn constantly fought against. I think there was some offhand dialogue between Shawn and Gus a few episodes after "the breakup" in which Shawn says he moved back in.

They were only broken up for like episodes. I think they got back together an episode or two after the one where Gus' boss dies. I think it is the episode before because I remember that episode starts with Gus knocking on Juliet's houses door to tell Shawn he's in trouble I don't know if they got back together officially as a couple that episode but she wasn't mad at him by the time Gus's boss is killed.

Yeah but Shawn was over there just for the night, and during that episode Juliet says it was a "one time thing" that happens and it doesn't mean they're back together yet. So I'm pretty sure they weren't officially back together until at least the next episode.

I was confused, as well. I thought I had missed some crucial scene of them making up and deciding to get back together. There was the episode where Jules got the single white female roommate and her and Shawn were definitely broken up. He was standing outside her window replacing a broken window pane and she was talking to him through the window. Next episode after that they were still broken up and then poof, they are back together with no explanation. I thought I missed an episode too bc my DVR has a habit of not recording, but that isn't the case. It was really quick, though. In the first song, Gus mentions that Sean's lying to his girlfriend.
