I almost sent it back as it seemed to fail almost as soon as I started to use it. However, on close examination I found that the row of keys directly under the screen are liable to get caught under the edge of the key apertures on the case.

It is essential to press the keys squarely to ensure that they don't stick down. Having owned an earlier Franklin machine I can say that this newer model's dictionary is not quite as comprehensive as the old one with less words. The case is better made than the old one and the lid hinges are more sturdy.
I'm very disappointed with this purchase, the picture of this product is deceiving. I chose this model for it's pale coloured screen and black lettering, it turns out to have a darker green screen and blue lettering which is difficult to see , precisely the reason why I decided to buy a new solver. I now have two Franklin devices I struggle to see.
I ordered this item as a replacement for the earlier model Bradford's Crossword Solver which I dropped and cracked the screen. It still works but the display is obscured in places. The new model appears to have exactly the same functions but the key layout is different. Once you get used to it it's OK. I assume it uses the same chip as the menus are the same. No doubt they've added a few more words etc. I bought this for my husband to replace a Collins Bradford one that he had used for a number of years and had started to play up.
This is an updated version of the original and easier to use because of the size of the keys and the design. He loves it and the content is great , with additional word game features. It is also useful for general knowledge queries. He always finishes his crossword.
An excellent present for the crossword addict. It is a useful travelling item replacing cumbersome dictionaries. I have bought a version of this before and it lasted for years.
