I went through all of the issues in my head thinking, Why on earth would he want to be with me? I have wrinkles … I have cellulite.

What could he see in me? I did not set out to date a younger man; I just fell madly in love with someone who is not my biological age. When the roles are reversed and an older man dates a younger woman, the men are often congratulated and revered. What is the equivalent of "cougar" for a man who has a younger partner?

So, after grappling with my own insecurities and the societal taboos, there were also the judgments of friends and family. At the beginning of our relationship, my friends were concerned that his age automatically revealed his readiness to have a long-term relationship and plan a future together. And, although we've been together for more than a year and a half, live together, and are planning a future with one another, individuals still find it difficult to understand why we have chosen each other. My age has been a huge barrier for some to open their minds and hearts and get to know me simply as the person whom he loves.
My boyfriend and I are not immune to the effects of these judgments.
The Pros and Cons of Dating a Younger Man
Just a month ago, we had to have another talk about whether or not we should stay together or break up — simply because of the pressure put on us from hearing so many critical opinions about our relationship. It amazes me that even as the world seems to be progressing and we're now openly embracing many life choices, most of us still aren't comfortable with age differences in relationships.
There are days when the weight of it all leaves me immobilized, sad, and unable to focus on anything. So, how do I cope when the judgments become overwhelming? I have learned a few things to help me get by, and to remind me that our love is worth fighting for:. I am aware that people often judge what they do not understand.
This is not the choice someone else may have made, they may have gone down a different path, or chosen a different type of partner. He acts more mature than I am even though I'm older. My family knows about our relationship but they seem to disagree. I been getting many negative opinions about dating a guy who is 7 years younger from my family. They think he's too young, immature and financially unstable.
Is 7 years a lot?
My mom wants me to date a guy who is older and financially stable but even if i did found that guy doesn't mean I will be happy. I'm happy being with him, isn't that all it matters? I don't know what is wrong with it because I think age is just a number. I personally think it comes to if you are happy or not, whatever your parents say is that "they" want the best for you. I have no problem with a 7 year age gap, as majority of females would want an older relationship, and males would want younger, but that's a different story.
When you get older, the age will become less noticeable example, you turn 32, he is 25, doesn't look that bad now does it? Good luck and i hope the best for you both! Happiness is all that matters, and never let haters and naysayers get you down. As long as you love him and he loves you and there is happiness between the both of you then no. Age does not matter and, if possible, learn to ignore the negativity from those around you about your relationship.
7 things that could happen when you're dating someone younger than you
Don't let what they think or say influence your love life because it'll be a big mistake on your part. I'm currently dating someone 4 years younger than me-- I'm in grad school, he's undergrad at the same school. My family's also disapproving of the age gap. While I disagree that the guy being older will somehow magically make him financially stable or responsible or able to take care of you, there ARE some realistic considerations when it comes to dating a significantly younger guy.
It's easy to say "age is just a number" and "all that matters if you love each other"; what's hard is making a longterm, workable future together, and that's where the age difference has a big impact.

For one, he's probably in college now right? That probably means he's not financially independent, while you probably have a job. My situation is that I have a research assistantship so I'm financially independent, albeit kinda poor, but my boyfriend is still completely dependent on his family. That makes things awkward when you plan things like travelling together, or really anything to has to do with a fairly significant amount of money. Another factor is what does he plan on doing after college?

Does he plan on doing more school? Most college underclassmen don't even known this yet, and if they do, that's years more when they're financially and location-wise very limited. How do you feel about longdistance? How do you feel about your career vs being close to him? None of these are clear dealbreakers, but they're what makes these relationships hard. If you really want to make it work and you are prepared to make sacrifices, then it CAN work.
But both sides need to try really hard to consider what things they're willing to compromise on. I've been dating my bf for 6 months and it's the best relationship I've had so far. I want it to work but I'm still aware that it'll be very hard.

He wants to go to med school after undergrad, which is basically one of the worst things for a relationship like this, but we're willing to see how things go and address that problem when it comes up in a year or two. Although you may be ready to walk down the aisle, it can be hard to get a younger man to put a ring on it. So if you want kids, it could be several years until your youthful partner is ready to face the reality of raising one. Even worse, women in this situation may end up being a sugar mamma rather than an equal partner.
In some cases, the guy is just drawn to a woman who takes care of him, but beware that some men may be true gold diggers looking for a free ride or to be taken care of financially, she adds.
