Christian dating advice for older adults

Not to mention having this cloud hovering over any relationship adds unnecessary pressure to it. Dating should be fun. It should be pure. These relationships can teach you something about yourself that prepares you for the one you will one day marry. This goes for dating as well.

It is better to remain single for a lifetime than compromise values just to marry.

Why are evangelical singles sleeping around?

It never ends well for people who do this. Those who have a high standard in a spouse will have a high standard in marriage. Having a high standard for marriage is an important value for having a great marriage.

And God desires couples to have great marriages. It is worth waiting months or years to find the person who meets the standards you believe are essential. So, if you hear someone telling you to stop being so picky, be sure the advice is bad. It is better to remain single for a lifetime than compromise your values just to marry. There are certain non-negotiable filters in dating.

Christian dating can be a field day for Satan. He uses dating like he uses everything inherently good…To spread lies and destroy your life. For this reason, date someone who shares your values. Shares your passion for Jesus. Shares your desire for purity. The Bible never talks about dating.

But Christians should work with you to pursue the holiness God desires. You know who makes statements like this one? People who are married…or really old. No offense to my older people. Love you guys and girls. The idea with this statement is you are trying to hard to find a spouse. But you are adding unneeded pressure and stress in the process. Instead of trying to find a spouse at every corner, you proceed to sit at the house with a bag of Nachos or ice cream.

Then, magically, a cute, Jesus-following guy or girl rings the doorbell with a box of chocolates or, for the dudes, a jersey from your favorite sports team , asks you out on a date, and the rest is history. Small wonder so many revert to pets I have three cuddly cats and professional massages.

5 Christian Dating Boundaries

I once suggested to my small group at church that we give each other back rubs. I was looked at as though I had suggested we all get undressed. Singles struggle through all this alone. The childless ones get mocked at family reunions or treated as though they are still teen-agers. Promiscuous friends who break every biblical rule in the book end up married, with healthy children.

And so, singles see their reasons for abstinence fading as they arrive in their mid-thirties. Women see their fertile years creep down to the single digits. I wish I could say help is on the way. A year ago, hoping for some encouragement, I attended a large singles fellowship sponsored by McLean Bible Church in northern Virginia.

Christian Dating Advice For Older Adults

I was dead tired from work and I arrived late, just in time for the speaker. Singles need to be content. What was so awful about his speech was that he was married with three kids. He had just finished telling us that our worth should not be wrapped up in our cars, houses, or families when he added that his children were healthy and they had just moved into a beautiful new home.

The guy sitting next to me walked out. I wish I had.

Many of us who have grown up evangelical or joined up at some point before our twenties abstained because we thought we had plenty of years to get married. And we wanted to please God. After all, Jesus had been celibate. But as the years turned to decades, our reasons to hold off on sex faded as it became apparent our wait would be life-long. When positive, fresh reasons are not forthcoming, single evangelicals will be having sex.

The only surprise in all of this is that single Christians the age of Miss Winner are also starting to despair. They, like us, see a celibate life as drab and full of suffering, like living somewhere between the Virgin Mary and Mother Teresa. Thus, just as the ex-strippers have received grace in marriage, you and I have received it by the very measure of waking up this morning. Inevitably, the God that created you and I determines justice, and our attempts to create our own will always fall short.

Could I truly appreciate His grace if I felt I had earned everything I had received through my sexual purity, including marriage? Could the ex-stripper truly appreciate grace were she not accepted by a Godly husband in the purest way? Must not have been. Two different measures — the same God who owes us nothing. He gives because He knows exactly what we need to find Him, and that has to be good enough. That said, everything you state about the church is true.

Hebrews 11 would have me think the opposite is true. It is easy to believe when you desire nothing: But to seek Him despite evidence to the contrary of its fulfillment? That requires a miracle. For a year-old man to live without sex and trust that a righteous woman would be honored by that someday? Nothing short of a miracle driven by faith. The world is still paying for that sin. This is much bigger than how you feel about older Christians having sex outside of marriage. This is about what you know of God and whether you know Him to be trusted.

I hope you want to get married to a true Christian woman, because if you do…I know plenty of them who are sitting in church living chaste lives for Christ and praying for a husband…Come on over here!!!!! The topic is marriage and singleness, not salvation, not heaven and hell. The ex stripper has a husband. I obeyed God, she did not. The ex stripper and I both ultimately deserve hell, but in living life day to day, one still gets a husband — the other does not.

8 Terrible Pieces of Dating Advice Christians Give

I simply pointed out that lots of people are committing fornication anyway and are not being penalized -AND — even more unbelievably — they are being BLESSED with great husbands, homes, jobs, etc. God did not hold them accountable for their sexual escapades, and there was no fall-out or consequence from or for their sins.

There was even one testimony by a Christian 25 year old woman who was so promiscuous, beginning when she was a teen, that she contracted a disease from the sexual activity. It injured her internal organs badly, and doctors said there was no cure. However, she began praying about this. No disease at all! So apparently, not even contracting STDs Sexually Transmitted Diseases is a consequence one has to endure if having sex outside of marriage; one can sin knowing it is wrong, fornicate with lots of men for ten to 15 years, get a S.

Wait until you are in your early 40s like me and still waiting, with no end in sight to the waiting. God has also let me down in other ways death in family a few years ago and factors related to that , and none of His promises in the Bible in regards to that came true, either. Even the most simple of prayer requests have gone unanswered.
