An article triggered me blaming matchmaking and official only servers to destroy the social aspects of an FPS. At first I was calling out bullshit, but I agree totally now. I have a favorite, paid by a clan that I played with for the last year or so, with my mates. Nothing special but a bunch of people that had fun to play. The server was really popular, because it had a sniper limit of four, 32 players, they played the DLC maps or the better maps, from my POV and most importantly they had an active community.

You could jump on the server at 2 pm, and 15 minutes later you would have a game going, with your favorite settings, maps and people. It can freely admit that it kept me playing, when my mates had little time at hand or were fed-up with BF4. So now I can jump on that server and be sure that even when there are four people online, that a game will never get started there.

Obviously you need 20 people to start a game at a 64 player server. I can not even dabble around with them because pre-round the game is unplayable, as there are no flags, crosshairs, points, hitmarkers or any kind of HUD. So in the end I can totally understand why people just want to play the game instead of waiting.

Personally I do see the point of streamlined gameplay, where settings are always the same and we play according to the rules that ensure balance, by DICE's understanding. It is easy and quick, just about the game.

However everything that involves communication, emotions, sociality is gone, too. I do not care about other players, why would I, I will never see them again likely, for all I care they could just be bots like in Titanfall. I've seen Westie three times on a server with me though, but that was the only memorable experience I had with a player, I recognized. Yeah the chat is as toxic as ever, but it is not even entertaining, because the players are total strangers.

Communication is at a real low point, too. In BF4 I used to get a Thanks! There is less smack-talk, too, yeah GaskammerGunther is still blaming Jews that his game lags, but I do not see crazy feuds, or anyone even remotely being a character. Basic social stuff like clans, and clantags are missing, commentable battle reports, chatting in lobbies, you name it.

This is an issue for me, as I enjoyed playing with real people of all kinds, Badmins, Trolls, people that communicate, polite people, loud people, all that stuff that gives me the feeling I am actually playing against human beings. I had that in BF4 when I played on my favorites, but as of now, the rented servers are a waste of time and money for the owners. This is a longevity issue as well, why would anyone keep playing this game for years if there is noone around he knows, and how are new people supposed to "make friends", when there are no options or features that support it?

The only way is through external communities, like here. This has been going on for a while now, to a ridiculous extent, it started with no dedicated servers over to chat filters and got to it's latest perversion in Blizzard titles, where you can not even chat, only comment.
